My Hair Inspiration

One of the worst things about being a military spouse is having to find a new hairdresser every couple of years. Once you finally find that one hairdresser who you love, you move or the hairdresser moves. It never fails. And then you have to start from square one with searching for that perfect hairdresser.

Well, we recently moved, and so I've been avoiding getting a haircut. It typically takes at least 3 times to find the hairdresser I will keep. From there, it takes a couple more times as we adjust to one another until I finally come home from the salon a happy camper. I'm not super picky about my hair, but I don't put any product in it, which for some reason, hairdressers love to do.

Cue my hair inspiration. My niece, Ashley, is my current inspiration. She is donating her hair to Locks of Love and so has been growing her hair out and only getting it trimmed. Well, I decided to follow in her footsteps and donate my hair as well. This gives me a little more time to find a new hairdresser since all I'm getting are trims and it's pretty hard to mess it up. (Hard, but not impossible!) Now Ashley has a ton of hair so her donation will probably yield wigs for about 15 kids. I am not so blessed in the hair department with my thin hair, and will maybe be able to donate enough hair to supply highlights!

I have had a lot of different hairstyles over the years, but this is the first time that I am growing my hair out long to then cut it really short. Just to give you a sampling, I've collected some old snapshots. And yes, I have some awesome outfits over the years.

Locks of Love is a great organization. "Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis." People can donate hair, or they can make a financial contribution. For the donation to be used, hair must be 10 inches in length. Shorter hair is sold to help offset the costs.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths "helps women grow long, strong,* beautiful hair and provides the funds to turn this hair into free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer." They partner with the American Cancer Society to provide wigs to women with cancer. Hair only needs to be 8 inches to be donated.

I am currently at 7 inches, so the question is whether I will be donating to Pantene Beautiful Lengths after 1 more inch or Locks of Love and needing to grow my hair out another 3 inches. To some, this may not seem like a lot, but I have never had that long of hair. Hopefully by the time I get around to donating, I will have found my perfect hairdresser because I'm gonna need some help making sure that my new, short hairstyle looks good.

Whichever organization I end up donating my hair to, one thing is certain, I am so proud of my 7-year-old niece Ashley. To have decided to make this donation at such a young age just shows her generous spirit.

Girl Scout Cookie Season!

Hi, it's Payton! I'm in Brownie Troop 5403 and I'm selling Girl Scout Cookies! My favorite is the Thin Mints. My brother and I are each donating a box of cookies this year. My mom says that it makes her heart happy. Donated cookies go to the USO, VA Hospitals in Topeka and Kansas City, and Harvesters (food bank). It’s on the website under Cookie Share, the first cookie.  My selling goal is 2,000 boxes of cookies. Our troop fun goal is to go to Worlds of Fun. Our troop community service goal is to donate to a children's hospital.  Online cookie sales end March 15! Cookies are $4 a box, but the gluten-free cookies (the Trios) are $5 a box.  https://www.abcsmartcookies.com/#/shopify-landing/651ab8b7-60a4-4375-b786-56b988997b85 Thank you!! ❤️ 🍪 🎉 😘 🦄 🎠 💎 💚 💙 Payton's Girl Scout Network Episode 1: Girl Scout Cookies! Sometimes, It's More Than a Game

Adam and I love taking our kids to sporting events. That is one reason why we are loving being here at West Point. We can take our kids to a variety of events from football and lacrosse to women's basketball and men's gymnastics to hockey and sprint football. We get to expose them to so many things that we may not have been able to elsewhere. With some of the sports, we can teach them about the game while we are there. For other sports, we get to learn about them together. Payton and Adam with Mr. Fulton at the West Point Open From a very young age (3 and 1), we are getting the opportunity to expose our kids to sports and competition. And sometimes, there is a moment where everything comes together. Yesterday, we went as a family to the Patriot League Women's Basketball Championship where Army played Holy Cross. We left the house very early to grab a quick bite to eat, and then headed for the game about an hour early. We had amazing seats in the second row behind the...

We Love Girl Scout Daisies!

After two years as Girl Scout Daisies (Kindergarten and First Grade), it's time for our girls to become Brownies! For their Bridging requirements, they had to do complete two steps. The first requirement was for the Girls to 'Pass It On.' We decided to take this step into the modern era of computers and technology and share our love of Daisies with you through a blog. The second, in case you were wondering, was to 'Look Ahead.' After we finished our blog, the girls got a taste of some of the activities they will do as Girl Scout Brownies over the next two years. During their time as Daisies, the girls worked on their Petals, Leaves, Journeys, and Fun Patches. Some girls were with us for two years and some just three months. They met every other week to do crafts, play games, work on service projects and so much more. It has been a fun adventure as you will see from their varied answers. Just like we had flower friends that we followed during Daisies, like Rosie ...
